Through the Rosewood Showgrounds Pilot the City were seeking to ascertain the ability of smart cities technology to provide operational information to City staff who were located some 20 kms from the Showgrounds.  The pilot was also intended to evaluate the efficiencies that the system would provide. 

The “smart” features of the system at the Showgrounds are;

• Smart Lighting
• CCTV cameras with video analytics
• Power monitoring
• Caravan park power switching and monitoring
• Solar Power including power monitoring
• Rainwater Tank Monitoring
• Rubbish Bin Monitoring
• Toilet Access Monitoring
• Weather Monitoring

The project increased the City’s operational efficiency in a number of ways, with one of particular interest being remote control of power points.  There are a small number of caravan bays at the Showgrounds (which does not have staff permanently on site) and hence previously it was possible for travellers to hook into power without booking a site.  Through the ARCS system the power points are activated remotely only when a booking exists.
